About Me

Philippa Smith is a Registered Dietitian with over 10 years experience both in hospital and community settings.  Philippa specialised in paediatric dietetics, weight management and maternal nutrition and has enjoyed working in the diverse communities of Wolverhampton and Birmingham.  Now living and working in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, Philippa has chosen to further specialise in nutrition during pregnancy, post natal weight management/healthy eating and weaning.

Since working freelance I found some of the greatest joys have been hearing about the positive changes my clients have made to their diet and how this has impacted on their family's eating habits.  Sometimes when we feel in good health we often neglect to look after ourselves.  Nutrition consultations with 'well' adults help to ensure good health continues into later life and introduces good nutrition to the whole family.

Why post natal weight management?

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be difficult when a baby comes along - suddenly all your attention is on your lovely little one and sometimes we forget about ourselves.  It is worthwhile for Mums to take time to think about their own eating patterns, as ultimately our children follow in our footsteps.  Also, following a nutritionally balanced diet provides a great foundation for future pregnancies.

Why nutrition during pregnancy?

During both of my pregnancies, and as a result of attending ante natal groups, I realised that many 'mums to be' were relying of advice from well meaning friends or family.  Or they were spending many hours searching on the internet for the most up to date advice on nutrition during pregnancy.  Pregnancy is a relatively short time, there is so much information to take in and many changes to get used to.  I felt it would be helpful for pregnant women to have a reliable port of call for dietary advice and information.

Why weaning?

Weaning should be a simple and enjoyable experience, however I have found that many Mums are anxious and confused about starting to wean their baby onto solid foods.  Offering weaning parties has enabled me to provide Mums with evidence based information in a relaxed and fun way.

Why fussy eating?

Whilst working as a Paediatric Dietitian I often reviewed fussy eaters in clinic.  Most families did an excellent job in taking on advice but I always felt that there was something missing.  Eating amongst peers can have a major effect on infant and child feeding habits.  Often parents and carers will find that their children will try different foods when with cousins or friends.  Not all babies and toddlers have the opportunity to eat amongst peers - and so the idea of a fun fussy eating group was born.
